Making sense of the bullpen mess in Anaheim

Losses that come at the end of games as a result of a failed lead protected are always to toughest to handle. The Halo bullpen could not quite hold things together last night, with Jose Altuve coming up big in the 8th.

Jose Alvarez entered in the 8th inning, protecting a 2-run lead. After the Astros loaded the bases with one out, Altuve stepped in and deposited a shot down the left field line, pushing the Astros ahead to steal a victory. Alvarez seemed to be the most trusted man in the bullpen, especially after the recent injury news of Keynan Middleton. With his inability to close down a game, where can the Angels turn?

Wednesday also means a look around the AL West, and while the loss was tough, the Angels are still in a very good position to content for a playoff spot after passing the 1st quarter mark of the season.

Plenty to feel good about after a series win over Seattle, and Francisco Arcia emerged as a major feel-good story over the weekend with his record-setting performance.

Francisco Arcia’s 10 RBI’s in two games. Kole Calhoun‘s resurgence and walk-off home run on Friday. Mike Trout homering once again off Felix Hernandez. Vladimir Guerrero‘s induction into the hall-of-fame. With a season mired in mediocrity, Halo fans received an awesome weekend of baseball in Anaheim.

Studs and Duds of the weekend also highlights performances by Arcia and Calhoun, as well as a tough outing for Felix Pena. Tune in!

This week seemed like the one last chance to turn the season around for the Angels. A chance to to build momentum against the White Sox going into a weekend series against the Mariners. That has not happened.

After yet another loss to the White Sox, the Halo offense continues to be plagued with inconsistency, struggling against another left-handed starter despite a starting lineup filled with right-handed swingers. The Angels now own the 4th-worst batting average against lefties in the league. Just add it to the list of problem hampering this team and spiraling this season into depths unforeseen…
